As a non-profit organisation, the work of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation centres on collecting, exhibiting and promoting photographic art work. With the Art Collection Deutsche Börse it has compiled an internationally renowned collection of contemporary photography, comprising over 2,000 works by about 130 artists from 27 nations.
In 1999, Deutsche Börse Group started to collect and promote contemporary photography. With the Art Collection Deutsche Börse, it has since compiled its internationally renowned Art Collection and built an extensive exhibition and educational exchange programme. In addition, it has supported numerous photography projects of other institutions as a patron or sponsor.
In following its objective of making its commitment permanent, Deutsche Börse transferred its cultural activities to the Frankfurt-based non-profit limited liability company Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation gGmbH on 1 August 2015. The Foundation coordinates and is responsible for all activities, which continue to centre on collecting, exhibiting and promoting works of photography. The Foundation is supported by an advisory committee of curators made up of international experts and multipliers.
According to its memorandum of association, the Foundation’s intended purpose is to develop and show the Art Collection Deutsche Börse as well as to promote projects and institutions on the subject of photography. Most notably, it focuses on discovering and supporting new talent as well as on developing educational platforms and encouraging scientific dialogue. The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation solely and directly pursues non-profit purposes.
